What Are Some Classifications Of Programming Languages?

In the general context, there are some specific classifications of programming languages that are very vital in terms of the attributes that they contain within themselves.

For instance, there is the visual programming language that is always used within a graphical environment.  In addition to that, it is very popular amongst non-technical users.  A suitable example of a visual programming language is Visual C+ programming language.

Another classification of the programming languages is the hypertext markup language that is the standard language that is universally acceptable and understood on the World Wide Web.  It contains texts, images and other programs such as documents, audio and videos.

Next comes the classification of the object oriented programming language that is purely and distinctly based on objects – involving packaging data and instructions on what to do with that data together.  Moreover this classification of the programming languages is a unified modelling tool for object-oriented systems.

           Computers perform many varied tasks for us very accurately and speedily. But they are machines so how do they understand what we human beings want them to do? Programming languages are an interface between the computers and the end users.

           Programming Languages, in other words are a set of instructions. It gives precise instructions to manipulate, compute, compile all sorts of data and also controls the flow of execution. Programming Languages have to follow syntax for writing a particular language and it has to be precise. Many languages have been written so far, to meet new needs and eventually been discarded. A universal language would be ideal but the need for different language arises because of the diversity of their context.  

           An Assembly Language is a low level language and is computer specific. It was developed in 1950s as an up gradation of first generation programming language. Today it is used more for hardware manipulation in device drivers or low level embedded systems.

           Assembly language was replaced by high level languages in 1980s. This language made use of different kind of features like file input/output, string handling routines and made complex programming simpler. However this third generation language was slow, error prone though it could also be operated on different computers.

           The fourth generation languages were naturally one step ahead of 3GL and were directed towards problem solving and systems engineering. Programs developed are user friendly, adaptive and address the requirement of wide range of end users.

The programmers classified the programming language into two basic types.
1: Object oriented programming.
2: Structured programming.
There is also programming language which is used for the website i.e PHP, ASP or ASP.net.
There is another programming technique which is not that much popular but used.
i.e  Modular programming.
Object oriented Programming: It is a programming methodology, in which a program is viewed as a collection of distinct objects that are independent collections of data structures and routines that interact with other objects.
Example of object oriented programming languages are c , c++ , java , and many more 3G languages.
Structures Programming: It is Programming methodology that gives the output of programs with clean flow, clear design, and an amount of hierarchical structure.

And about the programming used for the internet i.e php or asp.net are mostly used for the dynamic web development. And these are very handy and easy to understand.
Modular programming: It is a programming method in which the program is broken into many autonomously compiled modules. Each module exports particular elements, elements can be constants, functions, procedures, data types, and variables. all other elements stay private to the module. Other modules can use only the exported elements. Modules simplify and normalize the interfaces between the main portions of a program. Modular programming is an originator of object-oriented programming.
