Apart from writing mystery and crime novels, Carl Hiaasen also writes books for young adults. 'Hoot' was one such book. The book was released in the year of 2002 and it also won an award which was known as the Newbury Honour Award in the year of 2003. In May 2006, a movie was also made with the same name and story. The movie was obviously credited to Carl Hiaasen. The story of the book and the movie is that a group of young kids try to save a group of burrowing owls from being killed when the nest of the owls is built at a construction site. The kids try all kinds of things to save the owls and later find out that it is against the law to get rid of burrowing owls.

The book and the movie is full of adventures and is a must watch for every fan of Carl Hiaasen.
