Why Do Cats Always Go To The John When You're Finished Cleaning It Out?

I am wondering if you mean go to 'their' john rather than your bathroom?
Cats, like most animals, like to mark their own territory. This lets other animals know that this is their property and domain. When you clear out a domestic animals 'toilet area' you effectively rid it of the mark they have left. This is why it is very important to them to get in right away and mark it.
Sometimes with young, or new animals, you may leave a little in that area so that they go back to it. In the early years they might be apprehensive of going onto another animals territory and this puts them at ease.
If the cat goes to your bathroom once you've cleaned it out then i am a little more stumped. Perhaps they really like the fragrance of the bathroom cleaner or air freshener you have used. Or it could be the curiosity over what's been happening.

My original answer was disapproved although I don't know why. The gist of it was: As cats are fastidious animals, as we are, then they probably prefer a nice clean loo to go in, the same as we do.

Ohhhh, I love this question, Scrooge! I have always wondered this (because it drives me CRAZY). I clean my cat's boxes twice daily (morning and evening) and there is always at least one cat waiting to jump in and decorate it again. Thanks for asking it!

Yes, he does mean their "john". Very interesting answer, it certainly does make sense. I had never thought of it, and have never read anything that pertains to it. Thanks for the info. I'll certainly be more understanding of the cats impatience to get back in the box after I've cleaned it from now on.
