How Can I Prolong The Life Of My Mattress?

Answer Question

Follow the maker's guidelines:  you may need to do this to comply with the terms of their warranty.

In general terms, though, it is a good idea to rotate your mattress once a month to prevent hollows and flat spots. First, turn the mattress north to south and then east to west. Before remaking the bed, give the mattress a thorough vacuuming to remove the dust mites, dust and microscopic pieces of dead skin that accumulates. Where possible also vacuum the divan that the mattress sits upon. Vacuuming in this way won't necessarily prolong the lifetime of your mattress but it will certainly help allergy and sinus pain sufferers.

Bear in mind too that mattresses usually have a design life of about 10 years. The question has to be asked whether you should put up with a tired, saggy mattress when approximately a third of your life is spent there. Prolonging the life of a mattress past its design life will be a false economy if it starts to affect your waking hours. You really can't beat a good night's sleep.
