Why Is Jerusalem So Important?

Jerusalem is a city located in the country of Israel. It is of importance to all three monotheist faiths Jews, Christians and Moslems. For the Jews it is their holiest city and the site of the Wailing Wall. It is the direction most Jews must turn when praying. The wall is where the Temple of Solomon once stood. For many denominations of Christians it is also the holiest city. The Church of the Holy Sepulcher is located there. For many but not all Muslims, the followers of Islam, it is the third holiest city after Mecca and Medina. It was the Kiblah for the Muslims before it was shifted to Mecca and from where the Prophet descended during his ascension to heaven.

Since the time the three religions came into being they have fought over control of the holy city. It is now in the hands of the Jews after they took control of it from the Arabs.
