    The treaty of Rome played a vital role in establishing the European Economic Community. It was signed on March 25, 1957 and came into effect on 1st January 1958. This treaty was signed by France, Italy, Belgium, Luxembourg, West Germany and Netherlands.

    Actually Treaty of Rome was called as Treaty establishing European Economic Community. This formed the basis for European Union. It became the Treaty of European Community after Treaty of Maastricht was signed. The 50th anniversary of this treaty was celebrated in 2007.
