What Is The Functionality Of A Microwave Oven?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

As the name suggests, a microwave oven cooks food using microwaves. Microwaves are generated in the oven at a frequency of about 2450 MHz by means of a magnetron. When the waves fall on the food, these are absorbed by water, fats, sugars and certain other molecules whose consequent vibrations produce heat.

Since the heating occurs inside the food, without warming the surrounding air, the cooking time is greatly reduced. Most types of glasses; papers etc. do not absorb the microwaves and hence do not heat up. That is why most microwaves utensils are made up of glass. Foods cannot be cooked in metal vessels because the metal blocks out the microwaves.

Hi! I’m telling you about the microwave oven. You won’t get bored to death, because I was so surprised about how interesting the microwave oven is! The microwave oven was invented by a man named Dr. Percy Spencer. The microwave oven is a quick way to heat up food. Dr. Spencer was an engineer and he worked with Raytheon Corporation. When he was testing a magnetron, which back then was a new vacuum tube, he had a bar of candy in his pocket, and during the test, he noticed it had melted. (That must have made a mess of his pants). This made Dr. Spencer want to try a new experiment, but this time, he used some popcorn kernels near the magnetron. This time, he stood a little farther away, and looked very closely (probably very proud of his new invention). And while he did so, the kernels of popcorn sputtered and popped all over his lab. His third experiment was with an egg, except the tremors made the yoke splash all over the scientists face (who obviously was amazed). October 8th, 1945, Dr. Spencer invented the microwave oven. Never, ever, ever but plastic in microwaves because they will shrink to very small, and then it will be toxic. Plastic is toxic because when plastic is heated to high temperatures it changes to chemical properties which can leak out into the food you are eating. When microwaves where better designed they were a big hit in countries without gas, for example Japan. If you wrap a sandwich in paper towels before putting it in a microwave, it won’t get soggy.
