The main purpose of the skeleton is protect delicate organs. For example the ribcage protects the lungs, or the skull protects the brain. The skeleton also supports the bodies shape, as well as providing balance. Bones also provide a surface for muscles to attach too and allows for motion.

The bones are also responsible for a very important purpose which most people don't know about. Bone marrow inside the bones are responsible for the production of red blood cells (which transport oxygen) and white blood cells (which fight infection).
