If You're Travelling To New York, Where Should You Stay?

New York is an amazing place, but places to stay are seriously NOT cheap. Also the range is very wide, but the quality is all jammed up at the expensive end.

There are a lot of hostels, avoid them like the plague unless you are a serious hosteller and understand the difference between British/European hostels and American ones... the one I stayed at which will remain nameless but is in Chelsea and has the word international in its title was not worth spending $10 per night, we arrived and left within twenty minutes.

If you have money, well if you have $300 per night, you can stay at the Millennium Hilton, which overlooks Ground Zero.  Expensive yes, but high quality too, great food, wonderful breakfasts, good service, lovely beds.  Maritime Hotel is also good, though watch out for the wildlife.

Otherwise, Efuru is a lovely guest house on the edge of Harlem, very friendly owner and daughter.  That's for smaller budgets.
