Africa is the second biggest and second most populated continent and almost fifteen percent part of which is covered by a desert land. The continent occupies six per cent of the total of the earth's complete surface area.
Ten per cent of the African continent comprises the tropical rainforest while thirty five per cent is regarded to be the grasslands. It is spread across the line of equator and has enormous climatic features.

This continent's population amounts to 14 per cent of the world population. Africa is believed to have been inhabited by humans much before humans on other continents on the earth. From the historical records, it transpires that the human species originate from this continent which is why the continent has been regarded as the longest human inhabited continent on the earth. Almost seven million years old fossils of humans have been excavated by archeologist & have been studied by anthropologists.

The African continent has got fifty-three independent countries whose borders still appear to have been marked as per the era of European colonialism.
