               Fitzgerald's novel 'The Beautiful and the Damned' is the story of a socialite who is heir to the fortune of a tycoon and is known to the world with the name of Anthony Patch. The novel depicts his relationship with Gloria, his wife and also about his addiction to alcohol.

               The novel is considered to be an excellent portrait of the elite people during the era of jazz. The novel is known for its brilliant depiction of characters and the complexities involved with marriage and intimacy. Some scholars believe that the novel is an exact depiction of his own life and with the character Anthony Patch and his wife; he was describing his own relationship with his wife Zelda.  

               The novel was even made into a movie in which Kenneth Harlan played the role of Anthony Patch and his wife's role was played by Marie Prevost.
