The French Revolution led to fighting between England and France. Although many Americans took sides, Washington remained neutral. Soon British began seizing American ships and stealing their cargo. Washington solved that problem for a while by agreeing on Jay's Treaty. But still many people grew angry at Washington because he didn't support the French Revolution. After Washington retired, presidents after him still faced the same problem; the fighting between France and England continued.
