GEDCOM stands for Genealogy Data Communications. It is a file format representing genealogy data. It was created by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for saving their genealogical research. It is in a form of a programming language. You need to have a GEDCOM software program to start using it. For creating a GEDCOM file, open the software and input the data, for example your family tree and the save it in the '.ged' format. GEDCOM files are easily available on the internet and can be downloaded for your reference. Some of the tags used by GEDCOM are ADDR (Addresses), ANCE (Ancestors), LANG (Language) and many more.
