    An increasing monotonic sequence is a sequence of numbers that never decreases.  In other words, the next number in the sequence is always greater than or equal to the previous number in the sequence.  Similarly, a decreasing monotonic sequence is a sequence of numbers that never increases.
     
    The other answers are not really wrong, but I hope you find this answer to be a little more precise and less ambiguous.

      If a sequence is ether increasing or decreasing when it is called montonic sequence. Or if a sequence is may be increasing and decreasing then it is called montonic sequence.
