But there are more than ten, I mean WAY MORE than ten.
There are six that have reprensentation nationally, and most importantly, significant representation in the Lok Sabha (Indian house of representatives).
They are:
* Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) : "Majority Society Party", symbol=elephant
* Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) "Indian People's Party", symbol=green and yellow flag with a lotus flower on it
* Communist Party of India (CPI) symbol=red map of India with white hammer and sickle
* Communist Party of India: Marxist. CPI(M). Symbol=red square with hammer and sickle
* Indian National Congress (INC) Leader=Sonia Gandhi. Symbol=just like the national Indian flag, but with the palm of a hand in the middle rather than the Chakra that appears on the actual national flag.
* Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Flag is again like the Indian national flag, but with a clock instead of the Chakra, this time.
In addition, there are at least another six political parties represented in the Lok Sabha, plus dozens that operate at state level, and many that are registered but do not currently appear to hold any public offices.
