The Adenomus toad is a small genus of true toads. True toads are the most commonly found variety of toads and are found on every continent, with the exception of Australia and Antarctica. They are also the most adaptable variety of toads, as they live in a variety of environments, ranging from arid deserts to lush rainforests. True toads are warty in appearance and have a set of parotoid glands at the back of their heads which secrete a poison called bufotoxin which they use to relieve their stress. Adenomus toads are natives of Sri Lanka, and there are only three species of Adenomus toads, out of which one, namely Adenomus kandianus is now considered extinct. The scientific names of the other two species are Adenomus dasi and Adenomus kelaartii. The population of Adenomus dasi is also rapidly dwindling and it is on the list of endangered species because its natural habitat is gradually getting lost due to water pollution. Adenomus kandianus is already an extinct species.
