What Is Cash Cropping?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Cash cropping is the act of cultivating a certain crop for the sole purpose of money as opposed to sustenance farming in which the farmer cultivates crop to feed himself and his family. Cash cropping is done while keeping the commercial aspect in mind. When the farmer knows that he will earn a lot of money by growing a certain crop even though he does not need it himself, rather he can sell it and use the proceeds to buy what he likes. This is quite common in countries that have climates where they can grow certain crops that can not be grown elsewhere in the world. Some of the examples are the cash crops of jute, coffee, bananas, sugarcane and cotton. The main feature that sets apart the cash crop is the purpose for which it is grown, it is cultivated to export it and earn money from it. This helps some of the countries to specialize in crops that can only grow in their countries so they grow a lot of the crop and sell most of it.
