Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The discovery of coffee is lost in legend. According to a well accepted legend a thousand year ago an Abyssinian was attracted by the pleasant smell that came from a certain wild shrub that was burning. He chewed a few of its berries and liked the taste so much that he prepared a beverage from them and thus coffee was discovered.

Abyssinians in eastern Africa were the first who enjoy coffee and until 15th century it was the only place where coffee grew. Then it was taken to Arabia and from then on for a large period of 200 years the world's coffee came from Yemen, southern Arabia. In the early 17th century the Dutch began to grow coffee in Java and distributed the plants to several tropical countries. The English took it to the island of Jamaica, from which it is taken to central and South America. Soon coffee became very popular in both Europe and Americas. Brazil is the most coffee producing country in the world and the three-fourth of the world's coffee are produced there.
