How Did Rabbits Get To Australia?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The rabbits were actually brought to Australia in fleets to populate the area. The first fleet was brought to Australia in 1788 in the region of Tasmania. Later on Thomas, Austin brought twenty four rabbits and five hare to Australia in a location known as “Brown Park”. From Brown park, the rabbits reproduced so rapidly and unexpectedly that the spread to other regions of the country. He population increased so drastically that there was a danger that a plague might spring because of it. This led the government to establish an anti rabbit fence to keep the rabbits out from filed sect but this was not very effective. The government then also introduced the Myxoma virus in the rabbits to reduce their population but the newer generations of rabbits became resistant to it. Efforts are underway to come up with a solution to this problem.
