What Grain Is The Best For A Baby Horse?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Diets that are beneficial to foals are believed to be those that are low in glycaemic content. On the other hand diets that are high in fibre are believed to be best. It is advocated that even the pregnant mare should be fed a well balanced diet for proper development of the foal during pregnancy. The mare should be fed well even during the lactation period as the foal will get most of its proteins and calcium from the milk of its mother. A balanced feed for the foal should include soy hulls, fresh chopped hay and sugar beet pulp. A balanced pellet can be used to provide for the requirement of vitamins and minerals. Feeds meant for adult horses should be avoided, particularly those that contain molasses.
