My Child Almost 7 And Still Wetting The Bed, Should I Take Her To A Doctor?

Answer Question

There seems to be two schools of thought on this one.

The modern answer is that you probably just have to wait.  If your child is never been dry at night, they just aren't ready for it.  Certain hormones need to be produced by the brain for a person to go through the night without urinating.  It's a maturity thing and you can't rush it.  About 1 in 400 children will still wet the bed at age 8, just because they haven't matured enough.

The old-fashioned answer is that you may be able to get a GP to prescribe a synthetic version of the hormone needed to get them through the night.  This may kick-start them into producing it themselves.  Another possibility is a 'wee-alarm'; a pad under the sheet that rings a bell and wakes the child up when they wet the bed.  This seems to get the hormones working too, sometimes.
