Although black and white are both traditionally assigned the noun of colour, neither is recognised either scientifically or artistically as an actual colour. Both are in fact described as a non colour. The only true colours are the primary colours of red, blue and yellow, from which every other colour on the planet can be created. White is the origin of colour; fragmented reflections of light is where colour derives from. Artistically it can not be created by mixing the paints together, however, and must be bought separately.
Black can be created by mixing a variety of the primary colours. For instance, ultramarine blue mixed with orange makes a burnt umber. This mixed with further ultra marine blue creates black. When black or white are added to another colour, they do not create a new colour. They merely create hues or add values (shade) to the colour. For instance, if black is added to red, its colour family will still be red, just a darker shade.

Black and white are colors. White is the combination of all 7 fundamental rainbow colors. Black means that the object has no combination of any of the rainbow colors ^^
