How Many Miles Is It From Glasgow Scotland To Iona Scotland

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

From Glasgow  to Iona Isle off the West coast, is a
good 2 to 3 hour drive and a ferry.
Iona,  part of the inner hebrides, just off the Mull, is a comma of land separated by the strait.
This tiny island contains the oldest exposed rock on earth.
Mull is 70 million years old, but Iona is 35 times that, at a mere 2,5 billion years old.
Iona is known as a centre of Celtic Christianity and may well have been its origin.
Today 700 years after it was built by the Benedictine monks, the monastry still stands, as testament to spiritual life.
Today Glasgow's youth camps are held there, and St. Columbus
has left his words for all who come.
    Iona of my heart,
    Iona of my love,
    Instead of monks voices,
    Shall be lowing of cattle,
But ere the world comes to a end,
Iona shall be as it was.
