Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

It is used in law to indicate a section.   As in.....Article ?? Section ?? Of a written legal instrument/document.  That's about all I can remember from my short time studying to be a paralegal.  Hope this helps.  Janes

§ is for Sub-Section and refers to a reference paragraph in mostly legal writings.

Not trying to be stickler for correctness, but according to the law dictionary I have currently in front of me from my days studying to be a paralegal.....that symbol is for Section...not sub-section. The dictionary I am using is "Black's Law Dictionary, Abrigdged Seventh Addition copyright 2000 by WEST GROUP. ISBN 0-314-24077-2. Thanks, Janes
