Why Is My Female Dog Being Mean To Her 3 Month Old Puppies?
It seems to be jealousy, but I don't understand it. My husband was playing with the puppy and her mother just growled at her suddenly. She will bark at them when they get to close to her, not always but sometimes. I'm afraid that it will have a negative effect on the puppy.

Most dogs do not recognize their own puppies after a while. I have a puppy from my mothers dog and she does the same thing to my dog. According to my vet it is a way of showing that she is the Boss. She never hurts my puppy she just nips at her when she has had enough.

She probably is tired of them hanging on her make sure to feed the puppies puppyfood so they will leave her be.give them some wet food so they get plenty of food.

They don't hang on her anymore. They are weened and sometimes she'll play with them but sometimes she'll snap at them for no apparent reason.

She is disciplining them, to teach them good dog manners. You may not see why she does it, but she will know and so do the pups. When she growls at them when they are playing with you or your husband she is intervening because she thinks the game is too rough, or has gone on too long. It is common for the dominant dog to supervise the pack like this. At three months they are old enough to go to new homes. If there is one particular pup that she disciplines more than the others, I think you need to take the hint and rehome it, it means that she recognises it as the one most likely to challenge her when it is older.
