What Does The Term Albatross Mean?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Albatrosses, coming from the natal family Diomedeidae, basically are huge seabirds related to the procellariids, storm-petrels and diving-petrels coming from the arrangement Procellariiformes.

They are often found on a large scale in Southern Ocean and the North Pacific Ocean. Albatrosses are one of the largest flying birds, and the great albatrosses have the biggest wingspans in comparison to any existing bird. The albatrosses are generally regarded to fall in four different genuses, but there has often been disparity over the total amount of species.

Albatrosses are extremely well-organized while flying, applying dynamic soaring along with slope soaring to encompass huge distances with very less effort. Long-line fisheries generally create the biggest threat, as feeding birds are habitually attracted towards the bait in which they get caught and drown.
