To begin the game of chess, one of the two players makes the first move. Now who decides who makes the first move as the first move could determine who wins or looses the game?

The chess rule books say that the player with the white pieces should begin the game. ALWAYS. So, there is only one first move possible for in each game and only the player with the white pieces gets the opportunity. And if you ask me who decides who plays white, you should figure that out yourself.

In a tournament, the directors decide who gets to play white. They always announce that player's name first to go take the table. In other cases, often one of the players takes 2 pawns, one white and one black, in each of his hands. He holds them in his fist and the other player picks and plays the color he chose.
