Can Aggressive Flossing Cause Someone To Need A Root Canal And Why?

Answer Question

No. Flossing will not cause someone to need a root canal. It's a different part of the tooth that is the root canal ( root canal is in the inside part of the tooth)

Flossing more before the tooth was infected maybe would have helped to prevent it. Once the cavity is formed though it goes deep into the root and that's why a root canal is needed.

    Hope this helps =)

My dentist told me I'm an aggressive flosser & have cut my gums many times because of that, so I definately floss daily! But sometimes an overly aggressive flosser can have problems, too, right?

No, flossing doesn't get to the core of the tooth. There isn't anyway that you can end up with a root canal for something that doesn't enter into the enamel of the tooth.

So how come my dentist did a root canal on a bottom front tooth & told me it was from the fact that I curved the floss around the bottom of the tooth? Right after I flossed around the curve it started hurting. This happened at least a few yrs ago. Thanks : )
