There are two possible explanations (in my humble opinion):
1. There are many profiles created by the people who have set up the website, or by third party people or by scammers. Obviously you won't find real love there.
2. Many people don't feel comfortable in revealing everything about themselves online, which makes it difficult for you to know someone well enough.

Because they are free also some guys are too shy to come forward and put their name and address publicly on a non protected website.

The word Free, means spammers and fakes. Match.com seems like it might be worth the money. I tried the free sites and they got you jumping thru hoops to meet anyone.
