The first of Shakespeare's theatres was called, the Theatre. This was situated in Shoreditch, just outside the wall of the City of London. It was next to the Curtain. Another Shakespearean theatre. After an argument with the owner of the land the Theatre was on, Shakespeare's mates pulled it down, and transported the lot down to Bankside, south of the Thames, rebuilt it, and called it the Globe.
