How Old Is The British Museum?

    The world famous British Museum was established in 1753, more than 250 years back; the museum was opened to the public in 1759 and since them has become one of the most extensive and foremost museums in the world. The museum is located on Great Russell Street in London; the original structure, Montagu House that housed the museum was demolished in 1845 when the museum's collection could not be housed in the premises.

    The museum has been declared as a universal museum and houses a vast collection comprising over 7 million objects depicting human history and culture as it developed in all parts of the world. Over the years the museum has acquired arts and artifacts from all parts of the world especially during the colonial period and today is one of the most varied museums in the world featuring antiquities from Egypt, Greece, Rome, Asian civilizations and the from the Americas.
