Is there only one wire? If so you cant do anything with it. You should have a hot and a neutral and preferably a ground. Anyway run the white wire or neutral wire to the fixture. Put your black wire from the wall on one screw of your switch then take the black wire going to your fixture and put it on the other screw on your switch. Always switch your hot wires and not the neutral. It is safer.
