Word processing is the creation of a document using a word processor. Microsoft Word is one of the sofware pacakages that is used for word processing documents.

Word processing could either be typing up a hand-written document, or creating the document straight onto the computer.

Typists and audio typists will word process documents. Audio typists will listen to a dictaphone and type up the information. Word processing can also include shorthand and can also be done using a typewriter.

Programs such as Microsoft Word allow typists to check word processed documents using a spell check system.
