Who Made Lawn Mowers?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The first modern lawn mower was the reel mower invented by Edwin Budding in 1827. These reel mowers were a set of blades in a cylinder pattern. As they turned, they clipped the grass in a manner similar to a pair of scissors. These mowers had no motor and were purely human powered. The blades turned as it was pushed. They are still available today and can be purchased in lawn and garden stores.

Rotary mowers, like the modern mowers most commonly seen today, were developed in the 1920s with the improvement of small engines that could turn the blades at high speeds. Today there are many different brand names of riding and push mowers. Many of them are actually made by the same company, but built to different specifications required for each brand.
