What Is The Procedure Used In A Laser Skin Resurfacing Treatment?

Answer Question

Laser facial resurfacing is usually done under a local anaesthetic. This numbs the part of your face that is being treated, so that you can't feel the heat of the laser. It also prevents you feeling the stinging as the skin layers are removed. In order to keep you as still as possible, most surgeons will also give you a sedative to make you relaxed and drowsy.  Although your laser treatment is done as a day case – you don't stay in hospital overnight, you need to get someone to drive you home as the effects of the sedative can last for several hours.
If you are having your whole face treated or having another cosmetic procedure, such as eyelid surgery, done at the same time, a general anaesthetic may be used.
Before treatment begins, your face will be cleaned thoroughly. The surgeon then uses a laser beam to remove the layers of skin to remove wrinkles and marks on the face. The worse the wrinkle, the deeper the penetration of the laser. The skin is usually taken back to the level of the dermis, which then regenerates new top layers of skin.
