Buster Merryfield was a British actor who was famously known as the Trotter brothers' "Uncle Albert" in the TV comedy sitcom Only Fools and Horses. He died on June 23rd 1999 at the age of 78 after suffering a brain tumour.

Merryfield was born in Battersea, south London, and served as a physical training and jungle warfare instructor in World War II. Despite organising shows and entertainment for the troops, he only went into professional acting at the age of 57 after a long stint working for Westminster Bank. He was British schoolboy boxing champion and also had a short spell as a professional footballer at Millwall, although he only ever played one full game for the first team.

He landed the role in Only Fools and Horses in 1984, as the "war hero" Albert Trotter. His character became an institution with his "nautical nightmares" which usually began with the quote, "During the War." Albert's antics included being an executive lookout for Del Boy (whose trade was illegal trading in the market), dating the medium Elsie Partridge, falling down into a seller in a bid to gain an insurance payout and playing the piano whilst merry in the Nag's Head pub.
