             Derek Alton Walcott was awarded Nobel Prize in the year of 1992 for literature. He is a West Indian poet of black, Dutch and English descent. He was born on 23rd of January in the year of 1930 in Saint Lucia. He took his education from Jamaica and Saint Lucia. Most of the works of Derek Walcott are explored with Caribbean cultural experience.


              'In a Green Light' was published out in the year of 1962, 'The Gulf' was published out in the year of 1969, 'Another Life' was published out in the year of 1973, 'The Star-apple Kingdom' was published out in the year of 1979, 'The Fortunate Travellar' was published out in the year of 1981, 'The Bounty' was published out in the year of 1997. These are the best known poetries from the greatest poet of Caribbean Islands. Walcott's sophistication is flooded in sweeping rhythmic as well as sensuous sonorities.

              Walcott's epic 'Omeros' was very much influenced by the Homer's epic 'Odyssey'. In that epic Walcott just setted 'Odyssey' in the 20th century atmosphere which story wan located on Caribbean. The epic was brought out in the year of 1990. Derek Walcott wan also a playwright. He has written approximately thirty plays and among all 'Dream on Monkey Mountain' is the most popular one. It was produced first time in the year of 1967. 'Ti-Jean and His brothers' (1958) and 'Pantomime' (1978) are another popular numbers.
