Is It True That New "Eco-friendly" Fluorescent Light Bulbs Have Mercury In Them?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Yes, they do contain a small amount of mercury.

But look at it this way: Since coal is often used to generate the power that runs lights and since most coal contains mercury any generation of power will release mercury. The point is that since these compact fluorescent bulbs need so much less power to run the mercury released by burning coal is much less even when you consider the mercury used inside them!
