    If you are near enough your local shops, walk instead of driving. When you have the opportunity, take the stairs instead of the elevator. If there are lots of steps to climb, you could just take a few flights of stairs and go the rest of the way in the elevator. Park your car further away from the shops in the parking lot so that you can walk more. Simply walk around your house by doing housework. Also, remember that you don't have to be doing something else to fit a walk into your day. You could plan a walk for a mile or two a few times a week. Plan your journey for a safe and, if possible, scenic area. Then you will be sure to look forward to it! A walk along a beach is many people's idea of an ideal walk, but if you aren't near a beach, you could try a hiking path or other safe area. It's advisable not to walk alone in secluded areas.
