Which Insect Appears Only Once In Every 17 Years And Is A Member Of The Lotus Family?

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

That would be the cicada. They have a stout body, and a blunted head. Winged, and the male of the species is the one to make a loud buzzing noise by stridulating.  They are located primarily in the eastern states of the U.S. As you said, they emerge once in every 17 years. Incidentally, according to me, this is the 17th year. They will be seen in MA, NY, NJ, and CT. It is a very interesting critter. Hope this helped. Have a nice evening.
