Has A Republican Ever Tried To Overturn Roe Versus Wade Once They Took Office?
I'm asking because it seems to me it's just an election year hot issue used to get religious conservative votes.

It's been an election year issue for a long time...a President can't overturn Roe V. Wade in and of himself/herself. What they can do is appoint judges to the US Supreme Court that agree/disagree with Roe v. Wade. Since the Senate must approve of the selection, Roe v. Wade is often a litmus test issue (even if Presidents and Senators say that it isn't). In this election, assuming McCain gets elected and wants to overturn Roe v. Wade, and he has the opportunity to place one or two justices to the Supreme Court, which is likely in the next four years, the Democrats will control the Senate with approximately 54 or 55 votes, and I doubt they would approve a justice that will overturn Roe v. Wade.
