What Are Features Of Prokaryotes?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The primary feature of prokaryotes is that they lack membrane bounded structures like nuclear membrane is absent. Secondly, prokaryotes show less sub-cellular specialization as compare to eukaryotes. Thirdly, prokaryotes have cells which are very small in size as compare to eukaryotes like (1-5 microns compared to 10-100 microns). Fourthly, prokaryotes are single cell organisms. Another feature of prokaryotes is that they usually live in colonies like bacteria live in colonies. This increases their chances of survival. The shape of prokaryotic cell determines the overall structure of the organism like cocci is spherical, bacilli is rod shaped and spirilla is helical.
