Bavaria officially known as the Free State of Bavaria is the region which forms the southernmost state of the present day Germany. The capital of this region is Munich. The total area of this region is 70,553 square kilometres, and the total population of this region is estimated at 12.4 million inhabitants.
The area positioned towards the north of the Alps was occupied by Celts and was a portion of the Roman Empire till the tribes from East, which were known as 'Bayuvaren' started to reside in this area during the 6th century AD.
Bavaria shares its land borders with Austria, Czech Republic and Switzerland; states which are adjacent to it inside Germany itself are Baden Wurttemberg, Hesse, Thuringia and Saxony. The two main rivers which flow through this region are Danube and Main.
