What Is The Probability Of Getting A Jack Or Diamond In A Single Draw?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

    The total number of cards in an ordinary deck is 52. The sample space is 52.

    n(S) = 52

    Let A be the event that the card selected is a jack card. Let B be the event that the card selected is diamond card.

    n(A) = 4

    n(B) = 13

    n(A and B) = 1

    According to the law of addition;

    P(A or B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A and B)

    P(A or B) = 4/52 + 13/52 -1/ 52

    P(A or B)= [ 4 + 13 - 1]/52

    P(A or B)= 16/52

    P(A or B)=0.3077
