    The word Hellenistic is being used as an adjective for the Hellenes, the people from Greece. Mostly the word is used as an adjective to refer to the language or culture particularly after the time of Alexander the Great when it is believed that the Greek characteristics were modified after coming into contact with foreign elements.

    One of the most popular uses of the word is for the architecture from Greece and the main characteristics of the architecture is that it has variations of various types from that of the mature Greek orders.

    The word can also be used for the style of fine arts that was developed in the areas conquered by Alexander. The distinct features of the style are that it has often the violent movement of forms in space and has represented extreme emotions.
