Poole Harbour is one of the leading water sports centres in the United Kingdom. It is popular because of its sheltered and calm environment. It offers excellent locations for sailing and yachting as well. There are many yachting clubs in Poole including the Lilliput Sailing Club, the Parkstone Yacht Club and the Poole Yacht Club.
The OK World Championships, which is one of the premier international yachting competitions in the world, was recently held at the Parkstone Yacht Club in Poole. They also organise various national championships and two of the largest dinghy regattas called the Youth Week and the Poole Week. They hosted the J24 European Regatta Championship in 2006.
The Poole Pirates is Poole's best-known motorcycle speedway team, and the city has a Wessex League Division One soccer team called the Poole Town Football Club. People also go to other recreation centres such as the Tower Park arcade, the Poole Town centre, the Lighthouse (an arts centre) and Bournemouth, which has many bars, clubs and restaurants.
