How Do You Grow Hemp Commercially?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Selective breeding of several varieties of hemp has been taking place for several centuries. Since 1930, the breeding of hemp has basically focused specifically on producing strains. These strains perform very poorly as sources of drug material. The hemp which is grown for fibre is planted closely. It results in plants which are tall and slender and have long fibres.

The herb should be harvested before it begins to flower. The reason why the cropping of the hemp herb is done early is because the quality of its fibre declines if it is allowed to flower. Another reason for the early cropping of the hemp herb is because it pre-empts the maturity of the herb as a potential source of material for drug. Hemp belongs to the genus Cannabis and used for the purpose of consuming the drug marijuana (as it contains tetrahydrocannabinol, which is abbreviated as THC) as well as to make such articles as ropes and textiles.
