How To Solve 2x^2=40 Square Root Property?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

    Divide both sides of the equation by 2.
    x2 = 20

    Take the square root of both sides of the equation.
    √(x2) = ±√20    (± applies to both roots, but there are only two different possibilities. Those can be arrived at by just putting ± on one side, usually the side with the constant. -x=-√20 is the same as +x=+√20)
    √(x2) = x = ±√20 = ±√(22*5) = ±2√5
    x = ±2√5
