If you know the owner of the male cat, you can politely ask them to keep the cat inside until your cat is out of heat. If you don't, maybe there is a collar on the cat, and you can call them, and meet up with them to further discuss this.
Another alternative is to call a shelter, borrow a cat trap and set it for the cat, and turn it over to them once you've caught it. There aren't really any other deterrents, other than noise making when the cat comes around.
If you happen to see the cat, sneak out slowly, and quietly, then scare the cat off with a loud noise. They don't like it, and sometimes they get the hint to stay away. Hope this helps, good luck.
