How Does Weather Affect The Tides?

Answer Question

3 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

The weather does have effect on the tides, wind being the main source. Strong onshore winds might increase the tide level which means that when water is pushed toward the shore, because of storm, the tide water level will be higher than the normal ones. Strong offshore winds might lower or diminish the tide level.

The weather has instant effect on the tides. When the wind blows strongly, the water is pushed toward the shore by a storm over the ocean. Thus the tide level will be higher. Contrastly, when there is no wind or little wind there are lower tides as there is no wind to blow them up.
